Can you hear the whispers?

The majority of what is written on this blog is a description of knowledge gained during meditation sessions. Sometimes they are answers to questions that were asked, and sometimes they just show up.
For example, during a meditation session, the question was asked, "What is a concept to give to someone who is trying to understand why one would meditate?" Within seconds, an answer was received - “Tell them the answers are all within you, but they are a whisper. How can you hear the whispers in such a loud world?”
Helping someone understand the reasons for and benefits of meditation can be tricky. Maybe it is because there are so many, or because not all concepts strike the same chord. But this message that was given is a great explanation.
A person may spend their whole life listening to self-help books, learning philosophical concepts, and equipping themselves with peripheral knowledge that helps explain our existence, our purpose, and perhaps the universe. In fact, starting at the age of 15, the author listened to books on tape (a total ’90s thing - Google it), reading countless books, and listening to podcasts on the subjects of personal growth, then business and entrepreneurship, and then spirituality.
At some point, though, enough knowledge and experiences are acquired that, although there should always be a quest for more, it becomes time to do something with them. A golfer can watch thousands of videos and read hundreds of books on how to have the perfect swing, but until he or she gets out on the driving range and gives it a swing for themselves, all of that knowledge is not truly learned.
So, the message “the answers are all within you, but they are a whisper. How can you hear the whispers in such a loud world?” is a perfect summary of why we meditate. The answers are all within you. You have done the studying, experienced things in life, and filled up your big brain, so now it is time to tap into them from within.
Nobody knows how to apply all of the learned concepts you have acquired better than you. No book or teacher can understand what you have been through, what your genuine perspective is, to help you understand and interpret the fundamental concepts of existence, etc. Only you can. Your soul knows more than your human experience could ever dream of knowing or understanding, and it wants to share it all with you. The challenge is that it only comes in whispers.
The messages, the gentle pushes, the ah-ha moments that your soul can give you come from the subconscious.
Those are the whispers, but the world is loud. We have so much going on both outside and internally that it can be deafening.
Meditation calms down the loud world for you. It lowers the volume of the noise, both externally and internally, so that you can hear the whispers. You give your soul a chance to tell you what it needs to, and you give your brain a chance to figure out how to apply it to your life.
That is meditation. That is how it works and why we do it.
Do you need help meditating? Just ask in the comments, and let’s see what you are working on, where your challenges are, and how to get past them.
